Many tools come and go, but some have become very reliable in our efforts to better source talent. Sourcers are keen on the advantages of sourcing tools, but many are still learning the power of combining sourcing tools to achieve optimal success.

Like in the card game Yu-Gi-Oh, you can combine tools or cards to create magic. Yu Gi Oh is a card game that is based on a well-known children’s show called Yu Gi Oh. In the show, the good guys battle using cards that when combined with particular hologram technology brings the cards to life. In some cases, you can connect these cards to do something extraordinary.

One such example is the calling of one of the most potent Dragons in the game Cyber End Drago. What makes this monster so overpowering is no matter how many cards your opponent has on the field after it attacks you still take damage. However to call Cyber End Dragon you need to get three, that’s right three Cyber Dragons on the field and a magic card called polymerization (this allows you to combine monsters to draw a different monster). However, once you get them and summon Cyber End Dragon, you have one of the most prominent monsters in Yu Gi Oh.

Like combining cards in Yu Gi Oh you can combine tools to create a compelling combination that can do a lot.

For example, Let’s say we use the site Github which is a code repository used by millions of developers the world around. For us in sourcing, this site provides a place to find developers, testers, architects and pretty much anyone who codes. It is also a place where we can see code examples, as well as other information. So let’s say you did a search on Github and found a few people you like. Now what? Well, now you use an extension called Github Emails Finder & Exporter. This tool will detect and export emails of people you find on Github.

Now let’s say you need more than that. You just use a tool that I spoke about in “Combining Common Sourcing Tools to Create a Sourcing Solution – Part 5”, Data Miner and scrape all the information and then combine the scrape with the emails from the exporter and there you go. Data Miner is a tool that allows you to scrape data from sites for use elsewhere easily. Its sister tool Recipe Creator lets you quickly and easily create the recipes needed to scrape the info you want into the best format, for use in the next step of the process.

Let’s say you still need some emails; then you can use the tool I discussed in “Combining Tools to create sourcing Magic 7”, Toofr to get the rest. Toofr is a tool and site that allows you to input first names, last names and company names or domains, and get work emails. What’s good about Toofr is you can do it in batch, meaning a lot at a time and they don’t all have to be from the same company. So at this stage, you would get work emails for all the people you scraped.

So let’s go through this step by step.

  1. Step one – you search Github for candidates.
  2. Step two – you use Github emails finder & exporter to find and grab the emails.
    • (optional) As an option, you can use Data Miner to scrape all their information, and you can then use Toofr to get emails from what’s left.
  3. Step three – you upload to your ATS/CRM.
  4. Step four – you start contacting your candidate pool.

It is that simple!
