Every time I attend a conference I take a moment to look out on the city and reflect. As I look down on the lights tonight and experience the California air, slightly chilled but a good chill, I await the start of a conference that changed my entire outlook on recruitment.
This group of individuals you are about to hear speak are amazing in very different ways. The strategies and tools you’ll learn are awesome in their own right, but the people in this community have been simply amazing. Sourcers are my best friends, and I’ve seen people come up like Lenore Mewton as well as others that remind me of myself and the questions I’ve asked. The best piece of advice I can give to those in attendance is to ASK THE QUESTION. A question about Kimono is what started Aaron Lintz and my ongoing chats about data and indexing websites. One question about Boolean string development showed me the door to sourcing, and thanks to Arron Daniels, I’ve become totally obsessed with it ever since.
Attending my first SourceCon last year changed my entire career. This conference taught me things like how to properly build a custom search engine and data extraction protocols I would have never figured out on my own. More so, the community and the people I’ve met over the last year have immensely accelerated not only my own learning but my entire recruitment team’s understanding of sourcing.
I look down at Anaheim, and as I reflect on where I was a year ago, it’s surreal. To be asked to come back as a Speaker in March just takes all the words out of my mouth. Honestly…speechless. The reason I recruit is to help people, and SourceCon has allowed this on an exponential level. This conference and this community can be so powerful if you truly embrace it. So ask the question, and I know one of us will find you the answer!
And Shannon, thanks for the opportunities you’ve given all of us. We know this event is going to be absolutely sourcetastic! See ya’ll tomorrow (and in March)!
