Meet Sarah, the forgetful recruiter. One day, her Hiring Manager gave her a stack of printed CVs to review. After hours of interviews, she tucked the folder under her arm and headed to her car. And the adventure begins!
She placed the folder on her car roof, hopped in, and drove off down the highway.
Any idea where those CVs ended up?
If you asked the basic ChatGPT model, it’d say, “Still on the car roof!”
So the CV is most likely on top of Sarah’s car in the folder…
Oops.

That’s correct, but where is the magic?
Shall we pay for a ChatGPT subscription?
Shall we buy a new AI extension?
No! The magic is free and you can make your ChatGPT better with just a few sentences.
THE TRICK
Use the “Customize GPT” feature, and you’ll see ChatGPT turn into a genius with the right instructions.
It’s easy and works on both free and paid versions of ChatGPT. Here’s how:
- Log into ChatGPT and click your name in the top right corner.
- Select “Customize GPT” from the dropdown.
- Fill in the fields with your details and wishes.
- Click on Save.
- That’s all, enjoy your new ChatGPT!
Top right corner, click on your name, then choose: Customize ChatGPT
HERE IS THE SCOOP
The first question: “What would you like ChatGPT to know about you to provide better responses?”
Tell it about your job, what’s important to you, and your likes. For instance, I mentioned my love for satirical responses to keep things entertaining.
Here is the second question: “How would you like ChatGPT to respond?”
This one’s crucial. Here, you can define roles for ChatGPT and refer to them later. Just look at my roles I gave to ChatGPT:
- S, Sourcer: finds, attracts and engages candidates using various platforms.
- J, Job Specialist: knows modern professions and provides related keywords and their synonyms.
- W, Writer: creates great content, like HubSpot.
- A, Analyst: breaks down complex data with deep insights.
- SC, Scientist: gives scientific insights and advanced reasoning.
- B, Business Strategist: guides on strategy and business development, like Strategyzer.Think about the roles you juggle in sourcing and define them. You can also add roles like interviewer or job description writer.
Answer the 2 questions: who are you and what do you expect from ChatGPT
WHY DO THIS?
Firstly, ChatGPT will understand the context and switch roles accordingly. Secondly, you won’t have to repeat your instructions again and again with the same details in each of your requests.
This might not help Sarah, the dreamy recruiter, but at least everyone knows where the CVs are… In the second prompt, I told ChatGPT to act as a scientist (SC role) and as I defined it as a role with advanced reasoning, ChatGPT was able to find out what had happened.
