Among the dead in the horrific France attack: Sean Copeland, part of the human-resources technology field.
Copeland and his 11-year-old son died in Nice, France, in what was aptly described in that link as an “unthinkable” act. Twitter is also full of gut-wrenching photos of Copeland and his family.
On his LinkedIn profile, Copeland says he helped clients with talent management/recruiting at his most recent jobs. He’d been with IBM, SuccessFactors, and Oracle as well.
Darren Westenhaver, the founder of a company called Hamlet Coworking, said that Copeland coached his son’s baseball team.
“I remember well his kind and patient approach to coaching,” Westehaver said in an email to me today. “Sean took the extra care and time to help the less talented or experienced players to grow and have fun. He encouraged them so that they did not become frustrated. Finn was new to baseball and not a great player. I remember Sean telling him that he had very ‘quick hands’ and could be a great hitter if he would practice. Then he showed him what to work on. He looked for their strengths and built on them. He was a good coach … It is a tragic loss and my prayers go out to the family. He will be missed.”
